New Monthly Luncheons at Brock Community Health Centre to Connect Friends and Stir Up Flavours
September 5, 2025
Cannington, Ontario
Brock Community Health Centre, Brock High School and Community Care Durham are excited to announce Friends & Flavours, a barrier-free monthly luncheon to help community residents connect with friends and neighbours while enjoying an inspired meal together. Funding for this program is provided by the Government of Ontario. The luncheons will take place in Brock Community Health Centre’s new facility at 39 Cameron Street W., Cannington.
The Friends & Flavour lunch will offer an opportunity for fellowship, a nutritious meal, and to hear from speakers on relevant health issues and local programs and services. Community Care Durham’s transportation service is available to residents who are unable to drive or attend due to travel barriers. Brock High School’s Hospitality & Tourism Program will prepare meals, and the Communications and Technology Program will showcase the value of promoting intergenerational relationships. This joint initiative reflects a broader commitment to community-based solutions to address the many non-medical determinants of health through accessible and equitable programs.
“We want residents to feel a sense of belonging in their community,” said Janet McPherson, Executive Director of Brock CHC. “This program will address social isolation as a health issue, removing financial barriers to participate and celebrate community.”
“This unique opportunity to involve our students in this intergenerational social engagement opportunity will have a lasting impact as they build awareness of and challenge perspectives on ageism, and develop mutual respect for each other,” said William Jovel, Principal of Brock High School.
“Community Care Durham recognizes the challenges posed by limited public transportation in Brock Township; we are pleased to collaborate with the Brock Community Health Centre to offer transportation services to individuals attending the monthly lunch program,” added Laura Andricciola, Director, Community Support Services.
The program is planning the first luncheon date for September 30. To register for the program, please contact Jennifer at 705-432-3322, ext 105 or Loretta at ext 106.
