March 4, 2015 –
For several months, the North Durham Community Engagement Group has been meeting to discuss ways to improve service to the residents of North Durham. This group includes representatives from Canadian Mental Health Association Durham, Durham Regional Police Service, Community Care Durham, Nourish & Develop Foundation, Brock Youth Centre, Pinewood, North House, Brock Community Health Centre and the Human Services & Justice Coordinating Committee.
Collectively, these groups are looking at ways to help residents of North Durham access needed services such as mental health support, nutrition advice, transportation, social recreation, addiction support, and assistance in obtaining education, employment and housing.
Residents of all ages are invited to an Open House on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Beacan Presbyterian Church, 413 Simcoe Street (at John Street) in Beaverton. There are two sessions: 3:30 to 5:15 p.m., and 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. There will be inspirational youth and adult speakers sharing their life journeys and experiences in navigating the justice, social and healthcare systems. Please come and learn about available services and supports in North Durham. Transportation is available and must be pre-arranged prior to February 27 by calling 705-432-3322.
Buffet and refreshments will be served.
